Friends, Romans, Countrymen. Lend me your ears…
Lately in my internet travels, I have read of bands in my area losing members or experiencing “line-up changes” as it’s most commonly referred to. It’s hard to read such things, even if the remaining band members claim that their friendships with the recently departed are still in tact because those statements made are the last of an era in that band’s history. This Infernal Machine, although still in a rather infantile phase, has seen it’s fair share of line-up changes. It saddens me to say that we have experienced yet another. This time it is in the form of our drummer, Lance Taylor. Recently, he was given an opportunity he seemingly couldn’t refuse to join another band. And in light of that, it was decided that he should pursue that opportunity and we continue our pursuit in music with a new drummer. Fortunately for us, that search has seemed to have ended as soon as it began.
In this edition of the “Bland Vog,” we introduce you to our new drummer, Mr. Sean Savageau. We’ve known Sean since high school, back when Brady and him were the rhythm section for our high school jazz choir. We had contacted him the moment the decision was made to find a new man to rock it behind the kit. And not just any kit, dear reader, but a left handed kit he himself constructed. Everything is custom to him. I’ve been having some really great conversations with the guy and he’s really enthusiastic about joining in on the fun. We’re at a phase where all hands need to be on deck and just based on the conversations alone, he has convinced us all he’s willing to work to see this project thrive. We need that now more than ever. There’s a new focus in the practices and it’s breathing new life into the music and the way we play it.
We’re trying to make this album so we don’t come to you guys empty handed when we start playing shows and it’s important to us that it’s an album we are proud of. In the last month, I’ve managed to write two more songs and two more are being finished which will, essentially, round out the album. I’ve also been chatting with a good friend of mine about painting some pieces special for the album artwork. I think if there is anything to be said about this process that is different than any album I have ever created it’s the collaboration aspect of it all. I’m stoked I can incorporate my friends’ creativity as well. And just the number of people who are behind this record and are up for lending their hand in the process. It has been and I’m confident will continue to be an experience I’ll never forget.
This summer season has seen This Infernal Machine mold into what I’m certain it was always meant to be. Being a band that looks ahead, I think I speak for Brady and Nate when I say we are excited to work with Sean and to make this album with him and we’re even more excited to share it all with you.
Now enjoy the video because the BLAND VOGS are back with a vengeance!!!
